Mahindra Thar 5-Door To Get 3 Engine Options; Unofficial Bookings Open
Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that the Thar 5-Door lifestyle, off-road SUV will make its world debut on 15th August 2024. While its official unveiling is a few months away, select Mahindra dealers are reported to be accepting pre-bookings for the model. The booking amount will vary by dealership, ranging between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000.
The report further states that the Mahindra Thar 5-Door will be offered with three engine options: a 203bhp, 2.0L turbo petrol, a 175bhp, 2.2L diesel, and a 117bhp, 1.5L diesel. All these powertrains are already available on its 3-door counterpart. Read: Future Mahindra EVs To Use Volkswagen’s Batteries
The production-ready version of the 5-door Thar is likely to be named ‘Mahindra Thar Armada’. Buyers will have choices among manual and automatic gearboxes, and 2WD and 4WD drivetrain systems. The SUV will underpin the ladder frame chassis and share its suspension setup with the Scorpio N – a five-link with frequency-dependent dampers, enhancing its off-road capabilities.
Compared to its 3-door version, the Mahindra Thar Armada will have more features on board. It’s likely to come with a single-pane sunroof, leatherette seat upholstery, rear AC vents, push-button start, front and rear center armrests, and six airbags. The dashboard design will be different from the 3-door Thar, featuring dual full digital screens functioning as the infotainment system and instrument cluster. The rear drum brakes will be replaced with disc brakes. If reports are to be believed, the Mahindra Thar 5-Door could also offer a 360-degree camera, dashcam, and front parking sensors.
The Mahindra Thar Armada will appear slightly different from the 3-door Thar, especially the front fascia. The SUV will feature a newly designed grille, a tweaked bumper with integrated LED fog lamps, LED headlamps, and LED side indicators placed on the front fenders. The higher trims are likely to get full LED lighting and 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
