Volkswagen Tayron 7-Seater SUV Revealed – India-Bound

Volkswagen Tayron SUV has made its debut at the ongoing 2024 Beijing Auto Show in China. It’s essentially the long-wheelbase or stretched version of the new Tiguan that was showcased last year. In the Chinese market, the model is called Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro and offered with five-seats configuration. The German automaker will also bring in the new Tayron SUV in India via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route in 2025. Here, it will be positioned against the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

Underpinning the Volkswagen’s new MQB EVO platform, the new Tayron SUV shares most of its design elements with the new Tiguan. The front fascia design is sharp and aggressive featuring the sleek black grille, LED headlamps with LED DRLs and bumper with a contrasting black finish. It has pronounced wheel arches, all-black alloy wheels, body coloured door handles, black ORVMs and roof rails. The rear profile has been adorned by wrap around LED taillights connected via a LED light bar, a sculpted tailgate and blacked out rear bumper.

Interior of the new Volkswagen 7-seater SUV shares resemblance with the Tiguan. It has three dashboard integrated screens – one for the infotainment system (15-inch), one on the passenger side (11.6-inch) and one on the driver side for instrumental functionality. All three displays support Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 digital interface. On the feature front, the new Tayron offers a 360 degree camera, ADAS tech, HUD, dual zone climate control, 10-point massage seats with heating and ventilation, powered driver and front passenger seats with memory function, wireless phone charging and more.

Volkswagen Tayron Features

The China-spec Volkswagen Tayron comes with a single 2.0L, 4-cylinde turbo petrol engine delivering 184bhp with 320Nm on the lower variants and 217bhp with 350Nm on higher variants. The SUV has a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox and an optional AWD setup. In other global markets, the model could be offered with the 1.5L petrol plug-in hybrid and 2.0L turbo diesel powertrains. In India, the new Tayron might come with only a petrol engine option.
