Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe Debut Tomorrow – To Rival Tata Curvv

Citroen, the French automaker, has made it official that the all-new C3X SUV coupe has been named as ‘Basalt’ as it breaks cover on March 27. Citroen Basalt will have its global debut on tomorrow where for the first time, its exterior design will be revealed while the interior will be showcased at a later stage. The SUV coupe will directly rival the upcoming Tata Curvv in the Indian market.

Based on the versatile CMP architecture, it is the second Citroen product in the C-segment. Sources have hinted that the Basalt will be sold as a premium offering while positioned above the C3 Aircross. Though both the SUVs share a lot of things such as massive alloys, plastic cladding and several body panels, the Basalt will have its own individual design identity with elements like high riding stance, 4-door coupe-esque design etc. to name a few.

Going by the teaser, it is clearly evident that the Basalt would boast of a coupe-like roofline which integrates into the boot-lid. The tailgate is presented in a lift-back form, reminiscent of the Skoda Superb. The tail-lamp cluster is directly lifted off from the European version of the C3 hatchback. The front fascia will be fairly similar to the C3 Aircross, albeit with a heavy dose of chrome.

Basalt Features

Citroen Basalt is expected to get a plethora of premium features at the time of its market launch, unlike the C3 Aircross and C3 hatchback which has faced a lot of backlash from the buyers due to missing out on a lot of modern bells and whistles. Some of the new features in the coupe SUV are likely to be LED headlamps, electric folding mirror, automatic climate control, wireless charging, cruise control, push-button start, and keyless entry. It will be having a lot more features than the brand’s current flagship product, the C3 Aircross, in India.

The India-spec Citroen Basalt will be equipped with the same 1.2L turbo-petrol engine which we have already seen in the C3 Aircross and C3 hatch. This engine churns out 108 bhp of top power. It could be offered with a manual transmission as standard while an auto gearbox could also be in fray as an option. An all-electric version of the Basalt is also in the works but at least a couple of years later.
