5-Door Mahindra Thar With Premium Features; Gets Digital Driver Display

The homegrown UV maker, Mahindra will launch multiple new SUVs including the LWB Thar, XUV.e8 and the XUV300 electric in the country in 2024. The next Mahindra to be launched in our market will be the LWB Thar that has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The 5-door Mahindra Thar will ride on longer wheelbase to accommodate rear doors and bigger boot. Adding to it, the SUV will be more practical and feature-loaded compared to the 3-door model on sale in our market.

The latest spy images reveal that the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar will come with a significantly revised dashboard layout, which will have new infotainment unit, new instrument console and new steering wheel. It is likely to be fitted with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AdrenoX. This infotainment unit is likely to support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The new spy image also reveals that the instrument cluster of the Thar LWB, which has digital speedometer and multi-information display (MID) on the right-hand side. The new model will come with a fixed roof, which will allow Mahindra to offer an electric sunroof option. Similar to the new Scorpio-N and XUV700, the LWB Thar will also come with roof-mounted speakers. The new 5-door Mahindra Thar will have front and rear armrests, and climate control with rear air-con vents.

The LWB SUV is expected to be based on the same ladder-frame chassis that underpins the new Scorpio-N. The 3-door model comes with an independent double wishbone front suspension with coil over dampers at the front & a multilink solid rear axle with coil over dampers at the rear. This suspension setup offers improved off-road capabilities; however, the ride quality will be bouncy & uncomfortable on city roads & the highway. The more practical Thar LWB is expected to receive the Scorpio N’s penta-link suspension for improved stability.

5-door Mahindra Thar Interior

It is expected that the Thar 5-door will share the powertrains with the Scorpio N, which is more powerful than the 3-door version. It will feature the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines, delivering 200bhp with 370Nm/380Nm and 172bhp with 370Nm/400Nm, respectively. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The lifestyle off-road SUV is expected to come with either 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain options. If reports are to be believed, the production of the 5-door Thar is likely to commence in June 2024 and launch likely in the second half of 2024.
