Next-Gen Suzuki WagonR To Get Sliding Rear Doors – Launch Details
The first generation Suzuki WagonR tall-boy hatchback was launched in 1993. The hatchback has been receiving an overwhelming response from buyers, as it is currently in sixth generation. The company is reportedly working on the next-gen Suzuki WagonR hatchback, which is likely to be introduced in early 2025.
The next-gen Suzuki WagonR hatchback is reportedly to come with sliding doors on both sides for the rear seats. The Japanese-spec model will continue to be offered with a 0.66L 3-cylinder engine with a mild hybrid tech. This powertrain will be significantly improved and will surely offer higher fuel efficiency. Suzuki is also likely to introduce the strong hybrid version of the next-gen WagonR hatchback.
Similar to Japan, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the next-gen WagonR hatchback in our market in 2025. However, the India-spec model is not likely to receive sliding rear doors. MSIL could also introduce the sliding doors equipped version of the hatchback for fleet operators. The India-spec model could receive the existing engine options. MSIL could also introduce the new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder NA petrol engine, which will first introduce in the next-gen Swift hatchback.
Maruti Suzuki is also working on the electric version of the WagonR hatchback, which has been caught testing on the Indian roads. In fact, Suzuki global has also confirmed that the electric versions of the Jimny, WagonR, Fronx and other cars will be introduced in the next 3-4 years. The next-gen WagonR could also be offered with an electric derivative.
Maruti Suzuki had also showcased the WagonR Flex Fuel prototype at the 2023 Auto Expo. The WagonR flex fuel version has been designed and developed locally with support from Suzuki Motor Corporation. The hatchback’s prototype can run on a mixture of ethanol and petrol between 20 percent (E20) and 85 percent (E85).
