Tata Motors has recently announced the launch of the new Nexon compact SUV, which comes with significant design changes and an all-new interior. Priced in the range of Rs 8.10 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh, the new Tata Nexon is currently the most expensive model in its category. The SUV is available in both petrol and diesel engine options; its direct rival, the Maruti Brezza, is only offered with petrol engine option. The Hyundai Venue and the Kia Sonet are also offered with both engine options.

– The new Nexon petrol version is offered with 4 gearbox options – 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6AMT and a DCT. The manual version is priced in the range of Rs 8.10 lakh to Rs 13.50 lakh.
– The Venue’s petrol manual range starts at Rs 7.77 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.44 lakh, while the Brezza petrol manual costs between Rs 8.29 lakh and Rs 12.48 lakh.
Note – the Brezza’s base variant is the most expensive in the line-up, while the Venue’s base is the cheapest. The Nexon’s top-end variant is the most expensive model in its category – costing close to 1 lakh more than the Brezza & Venue top-end variants.
– The new Nexon petrol automatic range starts at Rs 11.70 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.70 lakh.
– The Venue petrol AT is priced in the range of Rs 11.43 lakh and Rs 13.23 lakh, while the Brezza AT starts at Rs 11.14 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.89 lakh.
Note – It is clear that the Nexon’s petrol automatic range is significantly pricier than most of its rivals.
– The new Nexon’s diesel range starts at Rs 11 lakh, which goes up to Rs 15.50 lakh.
– Its direct rival, the Brezza is not offered with diesel engine option.
– The Venue diesel is priced in the range of Rs 10.46 lakh to Rs 14.89 lakh.
Note – Similarly, the diesel Nexon is significantly pricier than its direct rival the Hyundai Venue diesel.

– The new Tata Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 120PS and 170Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT and a 6-speed dual-clutch or DCT. The diesel version gets a 1.5-litre turbo unit that is good for 115PS and 260Nm of torque. It can be coupled to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT.
– The new Maruti Brezza is only available with a single petrol engine. It features a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine that produces 102bhp and 136.8Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. It also has a CNG option. While running on CNG, the powertrain offers 87bhp and 121.5Nm of torque.
– The Hyundai Venue is available with 3 engine options – a 1.2-litre NA petrol, a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel. The NA petrol engine produces 82bhp and 113.8Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The turbo petrol engine produces 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. The diesel engine is good for 115bhp and 250Nm of torque, and is offered with a single 6-speed manual gearbox option.
Mileage
– The Nexon’s petrol manual and petrol AMT are claimed to offer a certified fuel economy of 17.44kmpl and 17.18kmpl respectively, while the petrol DCT returns 17.01kmpl. The diesel manual and AMT returns a certified fuel economy of 23.23kmpl and 24.08kmpl respectively.
– The Brezza petrol manual is claimed to return a certified fuel economy of 17.38kmpl, while the automatic version offers a mileage of 19.80kmpl.
– The Venue 1.2 is claimed to return a fuel economy of 17.5kmpl, while the diesel version comes with an ARAI certified fuel economy of 23.4kmpl. The Venue turbo is rated at 18.15kmpl.
Dimensions
– All three SUVs sits under 4 meters and comes with similar sizes. However, the Brezza offers the most practical second row that can accommodate 3 adults. On the other hand, the Venue and the Nexon can accommodate 2 adults and 1 kid in the second-row.
– The Nexon rides on 2498mm long wheelbase and has a ground clearance of 208mm. It measures 3995mm in length, 1804mm in width and 1620mm in height. It offers a boot space of 382L.
– The Venue has a wheelbase of 2500mm, and it is 3,995mm long, 1770mm wide and 1617mm tall. It offers a boot space of 350-litres and a ground clearance of 198mm.
– In terms of proportions, the Maruti Brezza is 3995mm long, 1790mm wide and 1685mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2500mm. It offers a ground clearance of 198mm and a boot space of 328-litres.
Note – The new Nexon offers the largest boot and ground clearance; however, most of the dimensions are similar to its rivals.
Key Features Comparison
– The new Nexon comes fitted with a new digital instrument console, a new 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, climate control system, wireless connectivity, ventilated seats, height adjustable front seats, cooled glovebox, a 360 degree camera and others.
– The Brezza has most of the features that are available in the new Nexon. However, it has semi-digital instrument console and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. It misses out on ventilated seats; however, the SUV has LED fog lamps and a HUD or Heads-Up Display.
– The Hyundai Venue comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, LED lighting system, cruise control, Auto AC, sunroof, rear camera, cornering lights, wireless phone charger, cooled glovebox, air purifier and many more.
– For safety and security, the new Nexon gets 6 airbags, a 360 degree surround view system with front parking sensor, blind view monitor, electronic stability program, reverse parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, rain sensing wipers, front fog lamp with cornering function and an i-sized child seat.
– The Brezza comes with 6 airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD & brake assist, hill hold assist, 360 degree view camera and others. The Venue also gets six airbags, parking assist rear camera with dynamic guidelines, cornering lamps, auto headlamps & headlamp escort function, vehicle stability management, hill assist control, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system.
– The new Hyundai Venue also comes with Level 1 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) with features like leading vehicle departure alert, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, forward collision avoidance assist – car, pedestrian, cycle, a high beam assist, lane keep assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, etc.
