Tata Punch CNG Coming Soon To Challenge Hyundai Exter CNG

With the introduction of the all-new Hyundai Exter, the competition in the micro SUV segment intensifies, particularly with Tata’s Punch micro SUV, as both models are competitively priced. While the Hyundai Exter already offers the CNG fuel option, Tata Punch is set to receive it soon, expected to go on sale in August 2023. This will be Tata’s first CNG SUV and the fourth CNG model in the country.

The Tata Punch CNG will boast Tata’s dual cylinder CNG technology, similar to the Altroz CNG. It will have two CNG cylinders, each with a capacity of 30 liters, positioned under the boot floor, without significantly compromising cargo space. The micro SUV will continue to use the 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. However, with the CNG kit, the engine will deliver a peak power of 72bhp and 102Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Visually, the Tata Punch CNG will be identical to its ICE-powered counterpart, with the only distinction being the ‘i-CNG’ badge on the tailgate. The interior layout and features will remain unchanged. The top-end Creative trim of the micro SUV will offer exclusive features, including a 7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, rear seat center armrest, puddle lamps, cooled glovebox, power folding wing mirrors, LED DRLs, auto headlamps and wipers, and projector headlamps.

Tata offers its IRA connected car tech as an optional feature, except for the XZ+ trim. The IRA connected car tech provides access to voice assistance, offering functions such as live vehicle diagnostics, integrated maps for navigation with what3words functionality, remote vehicle monitoring, security alerts, and more. The micro SUV also comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, keyless entry and go, driver seat height adjustment, cruise control, rearview camera, and various other desirable features.
