Bajaj Hero To Launch 350cc-500cc Bikes To Challenge Royal Enfield

With its premiumisation game in the two-wheeler space, Royal Enfield has been enjoying double-digit volume growth and strong export opportunities. The bikemaker is dominating the 350cc-500cc segments with models like Bullet 350, Classic 350, Meteor 350, Hunter 350 and Himalayan 400. With an aim to challenge RE’s dominance, Baja Auto and Hero MotoCorp are planning to bring in their locally-made bikes co-developed with Triumph and Harley-Davidson respectively.

Bajaj-Triumph’s Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X recently had their world premiere in London. Both motorcycles will go on sale in India on 5th July, 2023. Harley-Davidson X440 roadster, which is developed under partnership with Hero MotoCorp, will hit roads on 3rd July 2023. Let’s take a look at all key details of the aforementioned upcoming motorcycles.

In terms of design, the Triumph Speed shares some of its design elements with the Speed Twin 900 and the Scrambler 400X looks like the Scrambler 900. For power, both motorcycles use a new 398cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that’s good enough for 40bhp and 37.5Nm. Transmission duties are done by a 6-speed gearbox. The new Triumph bikes have been designed on the hybrid spine/perimeter frame made up of tubular steel. On the feature front, the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X offer a dash integrated large analogue speedometer with a small LCD screen, switchable traction control, a semi digital instrumentation, dual-channel ABS, an assist clutch, an immobiliser, a USB-C charging port and all LED lighting. Harley-Davidson X440 will be the most affordable Harley in India. Powering the bike will be a 440cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled motor, and it’s likely to be more powerful and torquey than the Royal Enfield Classic 350. The bike underpins a tubular steel frame with an upside-down fork and twin shock absorbers suspension setup. The production-ready model will be assembled with MRF tyres featuring a retro tread pattern. Upfront, the new Harley gets a round headlight with a DRL bar running across the centre. It will also come with the round indicators, a fully digital instrument cluster and Bluetooth connectivity. More details here…
