MG Comet EV Price Rs 7.98 Lakh – Range, Battery, Features
India’s smallest car is finally here. The British automaker today announced price of the MG Comet EV that targets buyers who are looking for small, urban city car. It’s essentially based on MG’s sister brand Wuling’s Air EV, which is already on sale in Indonesia.
Based on SAIC’s GSEV platform, the Comet is being offered at an introductory price of Rs 7,98,00 (ex-showroom). In terms of pricing, it goes against the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3 that cost between Rs 8.69 lakh – Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 11.50 lakh – Rs 12.76 lakh respectively. The carmaker has confirmed that its bookings will start from 15th May and deliveries will begin in the same month.
MG Comet EV – Range, Specs
The carmaker has confirmed that the Comet EV features a 17.3kWh battery pack, sourced locally from Tata AutoComp. The battery pack is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance. MG’s new small electric car is claimed to offer a range of up to 230km (ARAI-certified) on a single charge. It also has a single, front-axle electric motor pushing out a peak power of 42bhp and 110Nm of torque.
The powertrain is paired to an automatic gearbox. It comes with Type 2 charger connection and takes 7 hours and 5 hours to get 10 to 80% and 0 to 100% charged via a 3.3kW charger respectively. The small EV has disc and drum brakes at the front and rear. Suspension duties are done by McPherson Strut upfront and Multi-link coil at the rear.
MG Comet Interior, Features
Interior layout of the new MG electric car is exactly similar to the Wuling Air EV. It has a dual 10.25-inch floating displays – one working as an infotainment unit and one for the digital instrumentation. The infotainment system supports voice commands and have customizable widgets of different sizes and three fully customizable pages. You can notice a solid aluminum trim underlining dual screens. The dashboard has a textured finish, while the a rotary drive selector are surrounded by a gloss black trim. While the front seat comes with a one-touch tumble and fold feature, the rear seats have a 50:50 split ratio.

The small EV comes with a two-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls. It has also been packed with over 55 connected features, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, three USB ports, manual AC controls, keyless entry and reverse camera and sensors, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and tyre pressure monitoring system.
MG Comet Design
The Comet has upright and boxy stance. It appears similar to the Wuling Air EV. Upfront, the three-door EV has small headlamp clusters, tall nose, pronounced bumper and wraparound strip under the windscreen with LED lighting elements. It has 12-inch alloy wheels (smallest on any car in India) and painted in dual-tone colour. Its overall length, width and height stand at 2974mm, 1505mm and 1640mm respectively. It has a wheelbase of 2010mm and a turning radius of 4.2m.
The company offers four vibrant exterior colour options, namely, Starry Black, Aurora Silver, Candy White, Candy White & Starry Black and Apple Green & Starry Black. There are multiple sticker styles (Night Café, Youth, Day of Dead, Space, Blossom and Loresta) and Lit Packs – Serenity (Green), Flex (Red), Beach Bay (Blue) and Sundowner (Oragne).
