5 Upcoming Tata SUVs With ICE & Electric Powertrains
Tata Motors is currently ruling the electric passenger vehicle segment with over 85% market share. In total, Tata Motors is at third position in the list of top passenger vehicle manufacturers in the country. The company has announced that all its ICE vehicles will receive electric derivatives in the near future. In order to further boost sales & strengthen its position in EV space, the homegrown passenger vehicle maker is planning to launch 5 new SUVs with both ICE & electric powertrains.
New Tata Nexon
Tata Motors is preparing to launch the new Nexon sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market. In fact, the new Nexon has been caught testing numerous times on the Indian roads. The spy images reveal that the new Nexon will share the styling cues from the Curvv SUV Coupe concept, which was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. The new model will also receive significant changes inside the cabin. It will have a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver display and a new dashboard layout. The SUV will also receive a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 125PS and 225Nm of torque. It is likely to get a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The SUV will also get an electric powertrain.
Tata Curvv
Tata Motors had revealed the Curvv EV SUV Coupe concept in 2022. The petrol version of the SUV Coupe concept was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. The production version of the SUV Coupe is scheduled to be launched sometime in 2024. The Curvv SUV concept is based on Tata’s Generation 2 EV architecture, which is essentially the heavily modified version of the brand’s existing platforms. The Curvv will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 125PS and 225Nm of torque. It is likely to be offered with a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox options.
New Harrier & Safari
The homegrown automaker is also preparing the new Harrier and Safari SUVs, which will be launched sometime in 2023-24. The new models will also receive electric versions next year. The company had showcased the Harrier EV concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Harrier EV concept is designed on the Land Rover-derived OMEGA ARC platform, which is combined with Tata’s Gen 2 EV architecture. The platform is heavily re-engineered to adopt electrification. Tata engineers have removed the fuel tank area and transmission tunnel to create a flat floor on the inside. Tata has confirmed that the SUV will come with a dual-motor all-wheel drive set-up. The ICE versions will receive the 1.5L turbo petrol and a 2.0L turbo diesel engine in the country. On the other hand, the new SUVs to feature a battery-pack of around 60kWh to 80kWh and could offer a real-world range of around 400-500km. The new models will come with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capacities.
Tata Sierra
Tata Motors has confirmed that the Sierra lifestyle SUV will return in our market by 2025. The company had showcased the 5-door version of the Sierra concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. It will rival the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio-N. The company will introduce it with two powertrain options – petrol and electric. It will be offered with two seating layouts – 5-seat and 4-door lounge version. The Sierra lifestyle SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which will also power the new Harrier & Safari. This engine produces 170PS of power and 280Nm of torque. It will be offered with manual and automatic gearbox options.
