Upcoming Tata Electric SUVs In India – Curvv, Harrier, Sierra
Tata Motors is currently ruling the electric vehicle segment with over 80 percent market share. Tata has recently launched the Tiago EV, which has received an overwhelming response from buyers with over 20,000 bookings in less than 1 month. The company aims to have a wide range of EVs in multiple segments, and we bring you a list of upcoming Tata electric SUVs in the country –
Tata Punch EV
Tata Motors is preparing the electrified version of the Punch micro SUV, which is expected to be launched before the end of 2023. The Punch EV is reportedly to enter production by June 2023, while launch could take place during the festive season. It will be based on a heavily modified version of the ALFA architecture. Called the Gen 2 architecture, the platform will be capable of accommodating a large battery pack & miss out on the transmission tunnel. It is expected to feature Tata’s Ziptron technology that includes a permanent magnet synchronous motor and a battery pack. It could get a 26kWh and a 30.2kWh battery pack, and likely offer a range of around 300-350km.
Tata Harrier & Safari EV
Tata Motors had showcased the Harrier EV concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. Tata Motors has already confirmed that the production version of the Harrier EV will be launched in the country in 2024. It is natural that the Harrier’s sibling, the Safari will also have an electrified version in 2024-25. The Harrier EV concept is designed on the Land Rover-derived OMEGA ARC platform, which is combined with Tata’s Gen 2 EV architecture. The platform is heavily re-engineered to adopt electrification. Tata engineers have removed the fuel tank area and transmission tunnel to create a flat floor on the inside.
Tata has confirmed that the SUV will come with a dual-motor all-wheel drive set-up. The SUV could be offered in a front-wheel-drive layout. We expect the new model to feature a battery-pack of around 60kwh to 80kWh and could offer a real-world range of around 400-500km. The new models will come with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capacities.
Tata Curvv EV
Tata Motors had showcased the Curvv EV concept in April 2022. It is confirmed that the production version of the SUV Coupe will arrive in 2024. In fact, the new SUV Coupe will be offered with ICE & electric powertrains. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. It is based on the GEN 2 platform, which is heavily modified Tata’s ALFA platform. It is likely to get a larger battery pack with an estimated range of over 400ms. The EV will challenge the MG ZS EV, the Hyundai Kona EV and the Mahindra XUV400.
Tata Sierra EV
Tata had showcased the 4-door version of the Sierra concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The production version of the electric SUV in the country in 2025. Tata Motors has confirmed that the production version of the Sierra will look largely identical to the original concept. It will be offered with a 5-seater configuration as standard. In fact, the top-spec model will come with a four-seater lounge version.
It will be designed and developed on the Gen 2 platform or SIGMA architecture, which is a hybrid architecture. The Sierra electric version is likely to be fitted with a 60-80kWh battery pack with a front-axle mounted electric motor. The Sierra EV could also receive an AWD setup with two electric motors mounted on front and rear axles. It is likely to offer a range of around 500km on a single charge.
