Toyota SUV Coupe Based On Fronx Launching This Year

Japanese automaker, Toyota has recently launched the Innova Hycross MPV in the Indian market. The company has also announced plans to re-launch the Innova Crysta with a diesel engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Adding to it, Toyota will launch two more models based on existing Maruti Suzuki vehicles in the country in 2023.

Toyota will launch a new SUV Coupe, which will be based on the recently introduced Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The Toyota’s version is likely to receive several changes in terms of styling, which will make it look different from the Fronx. The SUV Coupe is likely to share design cues from the Yaris Cross, which has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads.

The front design could be shared with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, while the rear is likely to share design with the Yaris Cross. It will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0L 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol and a 1.2L Dualjet petrol. Both powertrains will be benefited with Suzuki’s mild hybrid technology. While the former is good for 100bhp and 147.6Nm of torque, the dualjet unit produces 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual as standard, a 6-speed torque convertor with 1.0L and an AMT with 1.2L engine.

Toyota will also launch a new 3-row MPV, which will be based on the Ertiga MPV. For people not in the know, the company is already selling the re-badged Ertiga as the Rumion in the South African market. However, the India-spec model is likely to receive significant design changes and an upgraded cabin. The company is likely to make design changes in the form of all-new front and revised rear. The design could share styling elements from the Innova Hycross.
