The upcoming MG Air EV will be the second electric MG car in the country and will measure just 2.9m in length

MG is gearing up to launch the new MG Air compact EV in the Indian market and will position it as an affordable and practical offering for anyone looking for a compact EV for city commute. The new Air EV will be the second electric car in the brand’s line-up and will take on the rivals like the Tata Tiago EV and the upcoming eKUV100 in the Indian market.

With a measured length of just 2.9m, the upcoming MG Air EV will be the smallest car in the country and will have a wheelbase of 2010 mm. For a quick comparison, the Tata Nano measured 3099 mm in length and was one of the most compact cars on sale in the Indian market.

A short length, boxy styling and a comparatively long wheelbase will give the MG Air EV a quirky and bold look. From what we know so far, the new MG Air EV is likely to be offered with a 50 kW motor that will draw its charge from a 20-25 kWh battery pack with an LFP-cell battery setup.

The claimed range of the new MG Air EV is expected to stand in the range of 200-300 km on a single charge. The iCAT-certified range will soon be shared by the brand. Needless to say, multiple charging options will be supported by this compact EV.

Despite its smaller size, the new MG Air EV will come loaded with a long list of features including a dual-screen infotainment system with two 10.25-inch panels. This infotainment system will get features like voice controls, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Other features on offer include automatic climate control, push-button start, digital instrument console, electrically operated ORVMs, and more.

With an expected starting price tag of Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the MG ZS EV may not be the most affordable car but will boast a feature-rich and premium package for the buyers. It will challenge the rivals like the Tata Tiago EV and is expected to make its Indian debut in the first half of 2023.

This new variant has been priced at Rs 1,50,000, thus making it Rs 3300 more expensive from the standard variant. It can be had in two colour schemes – Silver and Racing Blue.
