Toyota Innova Electric Spotted Testing For The First Time

Toyota has recently launched the new Innova Zenix in Indonesia. The same model, rebranded as Innova Hycross, will go on sale in our market in January 2023. The new Hycross will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta, which is hugely popular among diesel lovers and fleet operators. What’s interesting is that Toyota is also testing an electric derivative of the Innova MPV.

For people not in the know, Toyota had showcased the Innova EV concept at the Indonesia International Motor Show earlier this year. Now, the electric MPV has been caught testing on the streets of Indonesia for the first time.

Innova Electric Spied Rear

The Innova EV concept is not based on the new Zenix/Hycross. In fact, it is developed on the Innova Crysta on sale in our market. The overall silhouette of the Innova electric looks identical to the Crysta, Toyota has added some EV-only design elements. The front fascia features a blanked-out grille and all-new front bumper. The blue treatment is visible on the headlamp setup and on the logo.

The front bumper accommodates vertically positioned fog lamp housings. It has new alloy wheels and Blue graphics have been added on the sides to reveal its electric nature. The interior of the Innova electric is similar to the ICE version. It comes with a touchscreen infotainment system, a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, an analogue instrument console with blue graphics, etc. The infotainment screen of the concept shows important information like the battery level, available range and power output.

At the unveiling of concept, Anton Jimmi Suwandy, marketing director, Toyota Astra Motor Indonesia, said that Kijang Innova Electric has been built as a concept for the purpose of engineering development only and won’t go on sale. This concept was developed for R&D purposes and will be used for future EVs.
