10 Upcoming SUVs In 2022-23 – New Thar 5-door To Jimny

Here’s a list of top 10 upcoming new SUVs to be launched in the Indian market in 2022 and 2023.

1. Mahindra Thar 5-door

The homegrown automaker, Mahindra will launch the new 5-door Thar lifestyle SUV in 2023. It is expected to be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. The new model will be based on the stiffer platform and will feature penta-link suspension. It will ride on longer wheelbase, which will allow Mahindra to create more space inside the cabin. It will retain the existing 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines; however, the engines will be calibrated for more power and torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

2. Maruti Jimny 5-door

Maruti Suzuki will launch the long wheelbase Jimny in the country in 2023. The 5-door Jimny is reportedly to be unveiled at Auto Expo 2023, while launch is expected by mid-2023. It will be powered by a Suzuki’s 1.5L K15C petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech. This engine is capable of producing 103bhp and 137Nm of torue. Both manual and automatic gearbox options with Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system will be on offer.

3. Maruti Baleno Cross

Maruti Suzuki is also testing a new Coupe SUV based on the Baleno hatchback. Rumoured to be called the Maruti Baleno Cross, the new Coupe SUV is scheduled to be unveiled at Auto Expo 2023. It is reportedly to be launched in February 2023. The new model will share most of the features and interiors with the new Baleno and the Grand Vitara. It will be powered by a 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. The SUV Coupe could also get a 1.2L NA petrol engine with manual and AMT gearbox.

4. Tata Harrier Facelift

Tata Motors is preparing to give a mid-life facelift to the Harrier SUV, which has recently been caught testing on the Indian roads. It will receive significant design changes and an upgraded cabin with bigger touchscreen. Moreover, the SUV will receive ADAS tech with features like automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control and others. It is likely to retain the existing 2.0L turbo diesel engine producing 173bhp and 350Nm of torque.

5. Honda Compact SUV

Honda has officially announced to introduce a new compact SUV in the country in 2023. To be based on versatile Amaze’s platform, the new model is likely to make global debut at Auto Expo. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and the Maruti Brezza. It is likely to share the engine options with the City sedan. The company could also launch the strong hybrid version of the SUV.

6. Hyundai Creta Facelift

Hyundai will launch the new Creta facelift with significant design changes and upgraded cabin in 2023. The new model will receive an all-new front fascia inspired by the new Tucson. Moreover, the rear tailgate design will also be upgraded with new headlamp setup. It will also come with advanced driver assistant system. The SUV will retain the existing engine options – a 1.5L petrol, 1.5L diesel and a 1.4L turbo petrol.

7. Mahindra XUV400

Mahindra will start accepting pre-orders for the new XUV400 electric SUV in first week of January 2023. The deliveries and price announcement will take place in the end of January. It will be launched across 16 cities in the first phase. The XUV400 is essentially the electrified version of the XUV300; however, it measures 4.2 meters in length. It comes fitted with 39.5kWh battery pack and claims to deliver a maximum range of 456kms. The combined power and torque output of the setup stand at 110kW (148bhp) and 310Nm respectively.

8. New MG Hector

MG Motor India will launch the new Hector SUV in the next few months, most probably in Nov-Dec 2022. The company has also released multiple teasers, revealing the exterior and interior of the new Hector. It comes with a segment largest 14-inch portrait HD touchscreen infotainment system. The SUV is likely to come with the Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with features like forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, speed warning, intelligent headlamp control & blind spot detection. The new gen MG Hector 2022 will continue to be offered with two engine options – a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo petrol and a 2.0L turbo diesel.

9. Citroen 7-Seater SUV

Citroen has started testing a new 7-seater SUV on the Indian roads. It will be based on the Stellantis’s CMP (Common Modular Platform), which also underpins the C3 hatchback. It is expected to be unveiled at Auto Expo 2023. The new model will rival the Renault Triber, Maruti XL6 and the Kia Carens. It is likely to share the engine options with the smaller C3 hatchback.

10. BYD Atto 3

After introducing the e6 electric MPV, BYD will introduce the Atto 3 electric SUV in the passenger vehicle category. The new model will be introduced on 11th October 2022, while deliveries will begin in early next year. The BYD Atto 3 will be available with two battery pack options -49.92kWh and 60.49kWh – offering 345km and 420km range respectively.
