Maruti Suzuki To Launch 2 New Compact SUVs & New Swift In 2023
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of two new models – the next-gen Alto and the new Grand Vitara SUVs. While the new Alto will be launched on August 18, the new Grand Vitara will go on sale in September 2022. Maruti Suzuki is also working on a wide range of new models including new SUVs, hatchbacks and an electric SUV.
MSIL is preparing two brand new compact SUVs including an all-new YTB SUV Coupe and the Jimny lifestyle SUV. Adding to it, the Swift hatchback will also receive a new generation model in 2023. In fact, Suzuki has already started testing the next-gen Swift hatchback on foreign soil. The new model is reportedly to make global debut before the end of this year. The hatchback could be unveiled in India at the 2023 Auto Expo in January 2023.
The next-gen Suzuki Swift will be designed on the modified version of the HEARTECT platform. The new model is expected to come with a host of new features while the existing cabin layout. It is reported that the new Swift will come with a mild hybrid technology. The hatchback is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre K12N Dualjet petrol engine that’s good for 89bhp and 113Nm. Both manual and AMT gearboxes are likely to be on offer. The India-spec model could also get the CNG version. The Sport model will come with a revised 1.4L Boosterjet petrol engine.
MSIL will launch the long-wheelbase 5-door Jimny lifestyle SUV in the country in 2023. The new Suzuki Jimny LWB version is based on the 3-door Sierra lifestyle SUV, which is on sale in select international markets. The SUV will have 300mm longer wheelbase and the length will be increased by 300mm.
Leaked documents reveal that the Jimny LWB will measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,550mm. The SUV has a ground clearance of 210mm. The Suzuki Jimny LWB will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15C Dual Jet petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech. This engine is capable of producing 103bhp of power and 137Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
MSIL is also preparing a new SUV Coupe, codenamed YTB, which will be based on the Baleno’s HEARTECT platform. It will come with a higher degree of electrification. The new model could be the production version of the Futuro-e Concept, which was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be sold through NEXA premium dealerships. It will be offered with a single petrol engine option. The new model is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with a stronger hybrid with a greater degree of electrification. This will help in achieving higher fuel efficiency.
