Maruti Suzuki Developing A 7-Seater SUV To Rival Alcazar, XUV700
Maruti Suzuki is preparing a wide range of new SUVs including the new Jimny 5-door, new-gen Brezza, and an all-new Baleno based compact SUV codenamed YTB. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is working on a new mid-sized SUV (codenamed YFG) to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
It is reported that Maruti Suzuki is also developing a new flagship SUV, which will be positioned at the top of its future SUV line-up. Codenamed Y17, the new Maruti Suzuki SUV will be a 7-seater model. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus.
The new 7-seater SUV could be based on the Ertiga platform. It could replace the XL6 6-seater crossover-MPV, which is based on the Ertiga MPV. We believe that the new model could be the 7-seater derivative of the upcoming mid-sized SUV jointly developed by Toyota-Suzuki.
The new mid-sized SUV is expected to measure around 4.3 meters in length, while the 7-seater model could be around 4.5 meters long. The new model is likely to be based on Toyota and Daihatsu’s DNGA modular platform that underpins the Toyota Raize. In fact, the new-gen Avanza 3-row MPV is also developed on this platform. This SUV is expected to be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka.
The 5-seater mid-sized SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a stronger hybrid system. The same engine could power the 7-seater model. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki could source a bigger capacity engine from Toyota. Details about the 7-seater are yet to be revealed.
Maruti Suzuki is also preparing the next generation Alto hatchback, which has been spotted testing multiple times. Adding to it, the company will also launch the heavily updated Baleno, Ertiga and XL6 in the country in 2022.
