Tata Punch Based Electric Micro SUV Could Be Launched In India
Tata Motors has officially announced to introduce 10 new electric vehicles in the Indian market by 2025. The company is currently selling the Nexon EV, X-Pres T and the new Tigor EV. Earlier, Tata Motors said that most of its existing cars will have electric derivative in the future. The next Tata car to be launched in our market is the much-awaited Tata Punch sub-4 meter SUV.
It is basically the production version of the HBX micro SUV, which was previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo. Not just Punch EV, Tata will soon launch the new Altroz EV in the Indian market. The company had showcased the Tata Altroz Electric at the 2020 Auto Expo. These two electric cars are expected to be launched in 2022.
The new electric cars will be equipped with Tata’s Ziptron technology, which we have already seen on the Nexon EV and the newly launched Tigor EV. It is expected that the Tata Punch based EV could be the most affordable electric vehicle. The new model could be priced under Rs 10 lakh.
The new Tata Punch is likely to share the powertrain with the new Tigor EV, which is fitted with a 55kW electric motor and a 26kW lithium-ion battery pack. This powertrain offers 74bhp (55kW) of power and 170Nm of torque. The Tigor EV is claimed to offer a certified range of 306kms. Expect similar range and power figures for the Tata Punch based electric SUV. The battery can be charged from 0 to 80% in less than 1 hour using a fast charger. With home charger, the battery can be charged in 8.5 hours.
The Altroz EV is likely to source the electric powertrain from the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV uses an IP67 certified 30.2kWh battery pack with a permanent magnet AC motor. While the Nexon EV delivers a peak torque of 245Nm of peak torque, it could be different for the Tata Altroz EV. In fact, the battery capacity and range might also vary.
